MakeMyBiography ("we", "our", or "us") is an online biography platform that helps individuals capture, write, and share their personal life stories. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect information about you when you use our website and services at makemybiography.com.

By using MakeMyBiography you agree to the practices described in this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the service.

2. Information We Collect

Information you provide directly:

• Account details — your name, email address, and password (stored as a secure hash)
• Biography content — answers to life chapter questions, free-text entries, and uploaded photographs
• Profile photo — if you choose to upload one
• Share settings — recipient email addresses and share preferences when you share your biography

Information collected automatically:

• Login method (email/password or Google OAuth)
• Session data to keep you signed in across visits
• Basic usage data such as the chapters you have completed

Information from third parties:

• If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, and profile photo from Google in accordance with the permissions you grant

3. How We Use Your Information

We use your information only for the following purposes:

• To create and manage your account
• To store your biography answers, photos, and generated biography text
• To generate AI-assisted biography prose and answer suggestions using your content
• To produce and deliver downloadable PDF biographies
• To facilitate biography sharing with people you choose
• To display your completion progress and dashboard statistics
• To send transactional emails where you have requested them (e.g. share invitations)
• To improve and maintain the service

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information or biography content to any third party for marketing purposes.

4. AI Processing

When you use the "Generate Biography" or "Suggest an Answer" features, your answers and questions are sent to a third-party AI provider (currently Groq or OpenAI) to produce text. This processing is necessary to deliver the core service. We use your content only for generation and do not store it with those providers beyond the duration of the API request.

You can opt out of AI generation at any time by simply not clicking the generate or suggest buttons. Your raw answers are always stored and remain yours regardless.

5. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored in a secure MongoDB database. Photos are stored either directly in the database (compressed) or in cloud object storage depending on configuration.

We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your data, including:

• Passwords are hashed using bcrypt — we never store plain-text passwords
• Sessions are managed securely using HTTP-only cookies
• All data is transmitted over HTTPS

No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure. In the unlikely event of a data breach we will notify affected users promptly.

6. Biography Sharing

When you create a share link, anyone with that link may view your biography. You can revoke share links at any time from your Biography page. You may optionally require viewers to be logged-in users of MakeMyBiography. We are not responsible for how recipients handle or store content they have been granted access to view.

7. Your Rights

You have the right to:

• Access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
• Correction — update inaccurate information via your profile settings
• Deletion — request deletion of your account and all associated data
• Portability — request your biography content in a readable format
• Withdrawal of consent — stop using AI features at any time

8. Cookies and Sessions

We use a single session cookie to keep you signed in. This cookie is HTTP-only and expires after 7 days of inactivity. We do not use advertising cookies, tracking pixels, or third-party analytics.

9. Children's Privacy

MakeMyBiography is not intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top. Continued use of the service after changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy. We recommend checking this page periodically.
